Capital Valuation Group Enters 3rd Generation as Jane Tereba is Named President

Succession planning is something we talk about on a daily basis as a part of business valuation.  We always like to reinforce that shifts in the division of work and transition of leadership can happen long before anyone retires or sells their shares of a privately owned business.

As our team at Capital Valuation Group looks to the future and our third “generation” as a privately owned boutique business valuation firm (get a behind-the-scenes view here) we are excited to announce Jane Tereba, ASA, CPA has been named President of our firm as we continue to specialize in business valuation and litigation support. As Jane transitions into the role, Cathy J. Durham, ASA, MBA will maintain a leadership position as principal.

Jane started her career in public accounting, primarily at Grant Thornton, before joining Capital Valuation Group in 2014. She later became a shareholder and earned her ASA accreditation in 2021.  Jane uses her business valuation expertise with owners of privately held businesses helping them understand, increase, and unlock the value in their businesses.  In addition to client work, Jane also enjoys teaching on the topic of business valuation through speaking engagements, webinars, and podcasts. Jane hosts a free quarterly webinar titled Understanding Financial Statements for any business advisors interested in improving their fluency in the language of business. This webinar includes accounting basics as well as how to interpret and use the information to make client conversations even more unique and beneficial. Jane is looking forward to continuing the firm's legacy of exceptional client service while innovating to meet future client expectations.

Cathy has served as CapVal’s President for 7 years of the firm’s 45+ year history after joining the team in 1994. Cathy enjoys working with clients on business valuation and providing expert witness litigation support, as well as supporting the firm’s teaching and educational efforts. Her goal is to make sure every privately owned business owner and advisor is aware that there is so much more to the story of their business’s value than simply applying a multiple to a single earnings number on a financial statement.  Cathy actively serves on business boards  and works with business owners and their advisors to break down complex business valuation topics so they can increase business value over time, protect the value they’ve worked so hard to build, and eventually transition out of ownership  and enjoy the fruits of their labor. She looks forward to continuing client-facing work along with strategic planning to help set the firm up to serve business owners and their advisors for many years to come.
