Cathy J. Durham

Catherine J Durham, ASA, MBA is Past President of Capital Valuation Group specializing in business valuation and litigation support services. Cathy enjoys meeting business owners and learning about their unique businesses.

Her professional experience includes 30 years of appraising businesses, determining damages, advising business owners on ways to increase business value, preparing their businesses for sale, and ownership transition. She is experienced in testifying as an expert witness in both state and federal courts. Cathy obtained her BA degree, cum laude, from Washington State University, and her executive MBA degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Speaking: Cathy shares years of real-world experience and stories as she teaches on a number of topics relating to business valuation and litigation support. Her favorite topic to speak about is why the value of a business cannot be reliably determined by applying a multiple to some earnings figure. You can find a full list of speaking topics here.

Boards & Community Leadership: Cathy is currently a Board member and Audit Committee Chair for Lake Ridge Bank in Madison and an Advisory Board member of a Kansas Corporation. She has served on the Board of Directors for Meriter Hospital, the UW-Madison’s Business School/Nicholas Center, the Madison Children’s Museum, Food Fight Group (a group of 18 restaurants in the Madison area), Midwest Business Brokers & Intermediaries, the Madison Downtown Rotary Club, and is past President of Business Forum. Cathy is also a member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and FCG (Financial Consulting Group).
Beyond Work: Cathy enjoys spending time with her family (including furry members) and friends, and cooking. She is a foodie! She also enjoys biking Madison’s incredible bike path network.
